I live and work in a small country town called Jennings, NSW on the New England Highway. Actually I have mostly lived in regional areas of Australia and when I didn’t it was still on the edge of town where I still had the best of both worlds. I believe this is what has harboured my love of people, animals, country life and simple things. With nothing and no one being ordinary, and everything with a story to tell, I get great pleasure in capturing the beauty I see before me or creating the beauty I imagine.

For as long as I can remember words, images, and making things have been a valuable part of what I did.
More recently I have realised they are also a reflection of how I process.
Sometimes it is easy to share what I see and how I think in words, sometimes it is easier expressed in other ways.

I was fortunate to grow up being taught sewing by my Nannas and my mum from the age of four. I began sewing for others from the age of 18. Made clothes for my children and other baby items. I enjoy designing solutions to meet a need and playing around with already designed patterns to see what I can come up with. Whilst I only like to sew items that are useful, the design comes with poetic license.

Drawing and doodling were a huge part of my younger years. It was a great way to express things I did not have words for. I enjoy pencil and charcoal sketching with charcoal being my favourite medium. I sketched a large eagle onto butchers paper at around 15. My dad had kept it for years,  and returned it to me when my youngest son was born. I drew an image on the front of my mum’s new jumper when I was 17 — so glad she loved it. It has been quite a few years since I have drawn, so this is one thing I am really excited to get back into.

I was around 14 when I got my first camera (just a few years ago apparently). It was a film camera which was great but wow it took forever to discover what kind of photo I got. Often I clean forgot what the subject matter even was. I know I am not alone in that. When my children were young I borrowed my dads SLR camera, still film, but using it with interchangeable lenses was fascinating and so much fun. I never got into developing them, however, I’m so glad I got to experience this before things changed so greatly.

Huge is the only way to define the difference now in the photography industry, for me anyway. Dad’s old camera gave up the film and everything else, giving in to mold. Sad that I don’t get to use it and the range of lenses he had including the incredible Contax 1000mm lens — it is built like a tank. My first DSLR was a Nikon D5100. I still shoot with Nikon today.

Writing is another passion of mine. Poetry, short stories, blogs, and recently a book. When my children were at school, they would come home with a word for me, I would send them back the next day with a poem based on that word. It was fun.

Being able to see the way I see, imagine, and express what I see before me is something I am thankful for. Having the opportunity to share those things with you, having you participate in this process, and your trust in the quality of the products we sell is a gift.
